The story of Afandi Sweets & Cafe began in 1918, when Said Rashid opened his bakery in Kurdistan, beginning a family tradition of handcrafted baklava and traditional sweets.
In 1962, his son Said Jamal Rashid continued the family craft and later passed his recipes and techniques to his son, Jwamer “Joe” Rashid, the third generation.
In 2021, Joe brought his family’s tradition to St. Louis with the opening of Afandi Sweets & Cafe. After closing during the COVID-19 pandemic, years of requests from our wonderful customers inspired Afandi’s return.
Today, Afandi is returning to West County on Manchester Road, specializing in handcrafted baklava, kunafa, traditional sweets, ice cream, Arabic coffee, and tea.
Over 100 years. Three generations. One family tradition.
Over 100 years of family baking tradition passed down through three generations.
Everything is handcrafted from scratch daily using traditional baking techniques.
We use locally sourced honey instead of refined sugar or artificial syrups.
We carefully select high-quality organic ingredients to create desserts with exceptional flavor.
What started as a small bakery over 100 years ago has become a family legacy spanning three generations. Our grandfather laid the foundation with authentic Kurdish and Middle Eastern baking traditions.
Our father continued expanding the family’s reputation for handcrafted pastries and exceptional quality.
Today, we proudly continue that journey here in Missouri, preserving our heritage while introducing authentic Middle Eastern sweets to a new generation of customers.
Every recipe we make today remains inspired by our family’s original handcrafted methods, proving that great baking never goes out of style.

Every piece of Afandi Sweets is handcrafted the traditional way, layered with real organic honey and premium nuts. No artificial flavors, no shortcuts, just the authentic taste that has been passed down since 1918. Watch how we bring it to life.
